In 1878, the San Francisco Mint struck this silver dollar, representing the inaugural year of one of America's most celebrated coinage designs. This particular specimen has survived in remarkable condition, certified by professional grading services at a Mint State 61 level. Crafted with a silver purity of 90 percent, the coin contains 0.77344 troy ounces of precious metal, offering a substantial and tactile connection to late nineteenth-century American minting. The obverse side presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, which features a band inscribed with the word Liberty. Encircling her profile are thirteen stars, the date 1878, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread, grasping both a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. The reverse inscriptions read United States of America, One Dollar, and the national motto In God We Trust. Located just above the denomination, the small S mint mark indicates its production at the San Francisco facility.
