1879 Indian Head Cent Good

0.0000 troy oz 1879 Good

The 1879 Indian Head Cent is a fascinating artifact from late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck in Philadelphia, this coin features a metal composition of 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. Despite its popular name, the obverse actually depicts a representation of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American feathered headdress. The year 1879 is boldly inscribed at the bottom of the obverse, beneath the portrait. On the reverse side, the coin features the denomination "ONE CENT" placed directly in the center. This central inscription is encircled by a detailed wreath. This specific coin has been preserved in Good condition, showing the honest wear of a piece that once circulated widely in everyday commerce.
