The 1879 Morgan silver dollar is a classic example of American coinage from the late nineteenth century. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 90 percent. With a substantial mintage of 14,806,000 pieces, it represents a major production year for this iconic series. The obverse features a left facing portrait of Liberty, who wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band inscribed with the word Liberty. Surrounding this central figure are thirteen stars, the year 1879, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The design is framed by the inscriptions United States of America and One Dollar, while the motto In God We Trust is positioned directly above the eagle.
