0.7734 troy oz .900 1879 MS-61 (NGC)

The 1879-O Morgan Silver Dollar represents an early chapter in one of America's most celebrated coinage series. Struck at the southern mint in New Orleans, Louisiana, this coin features the classic design by George T. Morgan. The obverse displays a left-facing profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on her band. The year 1879 is positioned at the bottom, flanked by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle holds an olive branch and arrows within a laurel wreath. Above the eagle, the national motto "In God We Trust" is written in Gothic script. The legendary "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint is located just below the wreath, indicating its southern origin. This historic silver coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver with a fineness of 0.900. Out of a total mintage of 2,887,000 pieces produced that year in New Orleans, this specific specimen has survived in remarkable condition. It has been officially graded as Mint State 61 (MS-61), indicating it remains in uncirculated condition with its original mint luster intact, despite the passage of well over a century.
