1879-O Morgan Dollar MS-62 NGC

0.7734 troy oz .900 1879 MS-62 (NGC)

The 1879-O Morgan dollar represents an early chapter in one of America's most recognizable silver coinages, a series that circulated across the nation for about 80 years. Struck at the historic southern mint in New Orleans, this coin contains 0.77344 ounces of silver with a fineness of 0.900. It has been certified in Mint State 62 (MS-62) condition, preserving the intricate details of its nineteenth-century craftsmanship. On the obverse, a left-facing profile of Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, her hair band inscribed with the word "Liberty". This side of the coin also features thirteen stars, the 1879 year of issue, and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". The reverse displays a bald eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch. Surrounding the central eagle are the inscriptions "United States of America", "One Dollar", and "In God We Trust". The distinctive "O" mint mark is positioned just above the denomination, indicating its origin at the New Orleans facility.
