In 1879, the New Orleans Mint struck this silver coin, which went on to circulate as legal tender in America for roughly eight decades. Containing 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.900, this specimen has survived the generations in exceptional condition, earning a certified grade of Mint State 64 (MS-64). The obverse side presents a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, her hair band displaying her name. Framing her portrait are thirteen stars, the year of issue, and the Latin motto translated as "Out of many, one." On the reverse, a bald eagle clutches both an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by the country of origin, the face value of one dollar, and the traditional declaration of trust.
