The 1879 Morgan silver dollar represents a classic era of American coinage, minted at the San Francisco facility and carrying the distinctive S mint mark. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 62 condition, preserving the details of its nineteenth-century craftsmanship. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. On the obverse side, a left-facing portrait of Liberty is depicted. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band displaying the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her profile are thirteen stars, the 1879 year of issue, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse side displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR frame the central design, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is positioned directly above the eagle.
