0.7734 troy oz .900 1880 Almost Unc - 55

This 1880 silver dollar represents a fascinating moment in American numismatics, minted at the famous Carson City facility in Nevada. Bearing the distinctive 'CC' mint mark, this coin is graded in Almost Uncirculated 55 condition. It features the Reverse of 1878 design variation, struck in 90 percent fine silver with a total precious metal content of 0.7734 troy ounces. The obverse presents a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty. Departing from traditional European artistic styles, this representation was the first to give Liberty a distinctly American look. She wears a Phrygian cap decorated with native American agricultural elements, specifically cotton and wheat. The words of the national motto and the year of minting frame her portrait. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide, clutching both an olive branch and a cluster of arrows. This combination of symbols was chosen to show a desire for peace alongside a constant readiness for national defense. The Morgan dollar series itself holds a significant place in monetary history, circulating for about 80 years across a production span that ran from 1878 through 1904, with a final brief return in 1921.
