1880 Indian Head Cent AU
The 1880 Indian Head Cent represents a classic era of United States minor coinage. Struck in a durable alloy consisting of 95 percent copper alongside a 5 percent blend of tin and zinc, this one-cent piece showcases the distinct artistry of the late nineteenth century. The coin was produced at the Philadelphia Mint, which did not utilize a mint mark during this period. On the obverse, the design features a depiction of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American feathered headdress, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed across the band. Surrounding this central figure is the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with the year 1880 positioned at the bottom. This particular specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, retaining much of its original detail from the day it was minted. The reverse of the coin is framed by a lush wreath, with a small shield positioned at the very top. At the bottom of the wreath, a bundle of arrows is secured by a tied bow. Nestled directly in the center of this foliage are the words ONE CENT, boldly declaring the face value of this historic copper issue.
