The 1880 Morgan silver dollar stands as a classic representation of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not display a mint mark, which distinguishes it from those produced at branch facilities. It belongs to a celebrated series minted from 1878 to 1921, widely admired for its artistic merit and historical presence. On the obverse, George T. Morgan's design presents a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The reverse showcases a bald eagle with outstretched wings, grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons, symbolizing both peace and readiness. Above the eagle, the national motto reads In God we trust. Each of these historic pieces contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a composition of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. Out of a total mintage of 12,600,000 struck in Philadelphia for the year 1880, this particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving much of its original detail and luster for observers to appreciate today.
