In 1880, the Philadelphia Mint produced a significant run of silver dollars, striking 12,600,000 of these heavy coins. This particular issue carries no mint mark, a traditional signature of the main Philadelphia facility during this era of American coinage. Each coin is composed of 90 percent silver, yielding exactly 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The design, created by George T. Morgan, was a staple of American currency from 1878 to 1921. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which is adorned with a band displaying her name. The reverse displays a bald eagle with outspread wings, clutching an olive branch alongside a cluster of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness. The inscriptions on the coin include the national motto, "In God we trust," and the denomination, "ONE DOLLAR."
