This silver dollar from 1880 stands as a remarkable survivor from the late nineteenth century, preserved in a high certified grade of Mint State 64. Struck with a silver purity of 90 percent, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, giving it a substantial weight and presence that physical currency enthusiasts appreciate. The obverse displays a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, which features a hair band inscribed with the word Liberty. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars, the year of manufacture, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum, celebrating unity. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread, holding both an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing nation, United States of America, the face value of One Dollar, and the national motto, In God We Trust.
