Struck in Philadelphia during a period of massive silver production, the 1880 Morgan dollar is a classic representation of late nineteenth-century American coinage. This particular specimen is certified in a high-grade Mint State 65 (MS-65) condition, showcasing the intricate details of the design just as they emerged from the coin press over a century ago. Because it was minted at the main Philadelphia facility, it bears no mint mark on its reverse. The obverse of the coin presents a left-facing profile of Liberty. Her hair is adorned with a Phrygian cap, and the word "LIBERTY" is clearly visible on her hair band. Encircling this central portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1880, and the classic Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum." On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread, grasping both an olive branch of peace and arrows of strength. The eagle is framed by the inscriptions "United States of America" and the denomination "One Dollar." The national motto, "In God We Trust," is inscribed in Gothic script above the eagle. Each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a purity of 90 percent.
