In 1880, the Philadelphia Mint produced more than twelve million silver dollars featuring a design that would become a celebrated icon of American numismatics. This particular coin, preserved in Extra Fine condition, showcases the artistry of George T. Morgan, who captured a distinct vision of Liberty on the obverse. Facing left, Liberty wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band inscribed with her name. The reverse of the coin presents a powerful bald eagle. The national bird is depicted grasping an olive branch and a clutch of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness. Because this coin was struck at the main Philadelphia facility, it bears no mint mark, a characteristic feature of the city's production during this era. With a composition of 90 percent silver, each of these dollars contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The Morgan series, which spanned from 1878 to 1921, remains one of the most widely recognized and appreciated chapters in United States coinage history.
