The 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a remarkable example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin belongs to a celebrated series produced from 1878 to 1921. It contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a purity of 0.900, representing a total mintage of 8,900,000 pieces across all types for that year. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the intricate details of its original engraving. Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse of the coin displays a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band bearing the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the 1880 issue date, and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness. The S mint mark is positioned on the reverse, identifying its origin from the San Francisco facility.
