1880-S Morgan Dollar BU

0.7734 troy oz .900 1880 Brilliant Unc

In 1880, the San Francisco Mint produced a remarkable run of silver dollars, striking 8,900,000 of these heavy precious metal pieces. Each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. Known as part of a famous series minted between 1878 and 1921, this issue showcases the detailed artistry of George T. Morgan, whose work remains highly celebrated in American numismatic history. The front of the coin features a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap decorated with a band displaying her name. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1880, and the Latin motto meaning "Out of many, one." This side represents a classic era of American symbolic design. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds arrows and an olive branch within its talons. The national motto, "In God We Trust," is inscribed above the eagle, while the country name and the face value of "One Dollar" encircle the design. Just below the wreath on this side, you can locate the "S" mint mark, indicating its origin from the San Francisco facility.
