The year 1881 saw the creation of this remarkable silver dollar at the remote Carson City Mint in Nevada. Struck with a composition of 90 percent silver, this piece contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. It remains preserved in a certified Mint State 62 condition, still housed in the distinctive holder from the historic Government Services Administration (GSA) sales, which brought these hidden treasury hoards to light decades after they were minted. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty faces left. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, which features a band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The reverse side depicts an American bald eagle with its wings spread wide, grasping an olive branch of peace in one talon and a cluster of defensive arrows in the other. Directly beneath the eagle, just above the face value of one dollar, the famous CC mint mark identifies this coin as a product of the frontier Carson City facility.
