The 1881 Morgan silver dollar stands as a remarkable example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this particular issue bears no mint mark, a traditional feature of coins produced at the nation's primary coining facility during this era. Minted from 0.900 fine silver, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. On the obverse, the design showcases the profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of freedom, adorned with a band inscribed with her name. This central figure is encircled by the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum," the year 1881, and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The reverse displays a bald eagle, wings spread, grasping arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The national motto "In God We Trust" is positioned above the eagle, while the inscriptions "United States of America" and "One Dollar" frame the entire scene.
