Struck in the historic southern port city of New Orleans, this 1881 silver coin represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted with a composition of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The coin measures 38.1 millimeters in diameter and has a thickness of 3.1 millimeters, giving it a substantial presence. Out of an original mintage of 5,708,000 pieces, this specific specimen has survived in an exceptional state of preservation, certified by professional graders at Mint State 65. The obverse displays a profile of Lady Liberty designed by George T. Morgan, who used Anna Willess Williams as his model. Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a wreath of cotton and wheat, symbolizing American agriculture. A subtle detail is the designer's initial, 'M', located at the base of her neck. On the reverse, a bald eagle spreads its wings while grasping arrows and an olive branch. The reverse also features the 'O' mint mark, signifying its origin at the New Orleans Mint, alongside the traditional inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', 'ONE DOLLAR', and 'IN GOD WE TRUST'.
