Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 1881 silver dollar is a remarkable example of classic American coinage. Certified as Mint State 62, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. As a sovereign issue backed by the United States government, it carries a face value of one dollar and represents a highly active era of production at the western mint facility. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, who wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band displaying her name. Encircling this central figure are thirteen stars, the year of manufacture, and the Latin motto signifying unity, E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching both arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace.
