In 1882, the Philadelphia Mint produced an incredibly small run of proof gold dollars, with a total mintage of just 125 pieces. This specific coin has survived in an exceptional state of preservation, certified as Proof 66 Deep Cameo (PR-66 DCAM), a designation that highlights the intense contrast between its frosted design details and highly reflective, mirror-like fields. Struck from 90 percent gold with a total gold content of 0.0484 troy ounces, this tiny treasure represents the Indian Head design series. The obverse features a stylized profile wearing an ornate feather headdress, while the reverse displays the denomination of 1 Dollar and the date of production. Because it was struck at the main Philadelphia facility, the coin carries no mintmark.
