Struck in Madrid between 1882 and 1885, this Spanish silver coin represents a significant era of late nineteenth-century European coinage. Each piece contains 0.7234 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 0.900. These coins survive in average circulated condition, carrying the natural wear and character of historical currency that actually passed through the hands of the Spanish public. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of King Alfonso XII, with the year of issue positioned beneath the bust. Surrounding the profile is the monarch's name and titles.
