The 1882 Indian Head Cent represents a classic era of United States copper coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this one-cent piece is composed of a durable alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. Over time, these coins have circulated widely, leaving this particular example in an Almost Good state of preservation where the outline of its historic imagery remains visible. On the obverse, the design features a depiction of Liberty wearing a feathered Native American headdress, a creative choice by designer James B. Longacre that became one of the most recognizable faces in American pocket change during the late nineteenth century. The reverse of the coin displays the denomination "ONE CENT" nestled securely within a decorative wreath, emphasizing a straightforward and functional design for everyday commerce.
