The 1882 Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this issue carries no mint mark, distinguishing it from those produced at branch mints. Each of these heavy silver coins contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a purity of 90 percent. They were part of a massive production run in 1882, which saw over 11 million of these dollars minted to support the nation's commerce. The Morgan series itself served as a staple of daily transactions, circulating throughout the United States for roughly 80 years. On the obverse, the design showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, and her hair band is clearly inscribed with the word "Liberty". Framing this central image are thirteen stars, the 1882 date of issue, and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". The reverse displays a powerful heraldic bald eagle. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. The national motto "In God We Trust" is inscribed above the eagle, while the legends "United States of America" and the "One Dollar" denomination wrap around the outer border.
