1882 Morgan Dollar XF

0.7734 troy oz .900 1882 Extra Fine

Struck in 1882 at the Philadelphia Mint, this silver dollar represents a classic era of United States currency. Each of these coins contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a composition that is 90 percent pure. Over 11 million of these pieces were minted in Philadelphia during this particular year, and because they were produced at the main facility, they do not bear a mint mark. The obverse side displays a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, featuring the word "Liberty" inscribed upon her hair band. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the 1882 date, and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum." On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing both peace and defense. The central image is accompanied by the motto "In God We Trust," while the outer border is inscribed with "United States of America" and the "One Dollar" denomination. This iconic design was a staple of American commerce for roughly 80 years.
