The 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a classic example of nineteenth-century American coinage. Minted in San Francisco, this piece contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.900. It belongs to a celebrated series of silver dollars that actively circulated throughout the United States for roughly eighty years, serving as a staple of daily commerce. On the obverse side, Lady Liberty is depicted facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap with a hair band that clearly displays the inscription "Liberty". Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, which pay tribute to the original thirteen American colonies. The traditional Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum" is inscribed along the rim, accompanied by the 1882 year of issue at the bottom. The reverse of the coin showcases a bald eagle with its wings spread, clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons to represent peace and readiness. Above the eagle, the motto "In God We Trust" is inscribed. The outer rim is encircled by the inscriptions "United States of America" and the "One Dollar" denomination. Just below the eagle, the "S" mint mark identifies this piece as a product of the historic San Francisco Mint.
