1882-S Morgan Dollar BU

0.7734 troy oz .900 1882 Brilliant Unc

Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1882, this Morgan dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. These heavy silver pieces served as a staple of daily commerce in the United States for close to eight decades, carrying a metal content of 0.7734 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. The obverse side displays the profile of Liberty, who wears a traditional Phrygian cap with a band bearing her name. Encircling her likeness are thirteen stars, symbolizing the initial colonies that formed the nation, alongside the date of manufacture and the Latin motto translating to out of many, one. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted holding both a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The bird is framed by the country of origin, the face value of one dollar, and the national motto expressing trust in God. Positioned on this side is also the letter S, denoting its origin from the San Francisco minting facility.
