In 1883, the Carson City Mint struck a remarkably small run of twenty-dollar gold pieces, totaling just 59,962 coins. Today, encountering one of these heavy gold treasures in uncirculated condition is an extraordinary event for enthusiasts of frontier coinage. This particular specimen survives in an impressive Mint State 62 preservation, showcasing the original luster and detail that emerged from the Nevada press over a century ago. The obverse of this double eagle features the classic Liberty design, her hair bound and crowned with a coronet, surrounded by thirteen stars with the date 1883 positioned below. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal.
