In 1883, the Carson City Mint struck a run of 1,204,000 silver dollars featuring the iconic designs of George T. Morgan. This specific issue is famous for an unusual twist of fate: more than 755,000 of these coins remained tucked away in Treasury vaults for generations. This massive hoard was eventually distributed to the public through the General Services Administration sales, allowing many pristine specimens to survive into the modern era. The obverse of this classic coin features a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty, her hair adorned with a Phrygian cap, wheat ears, and cotton blossoms. On the reverse, a bald eagle spreads its wings while grasping arrows and an olive branch. Struck in 0.900 fine silver, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, with a total weight of 26.73 grams, a diameter of 38.1 mm, and a thickness of 3.1 mm. This particular specimen is preserved in an extraordinary state of preservation, certified at the elite grade of Mint State 67 (MS-67). The "CC" mint mark below the wreath on the reverse serves as a tangible link to the legendary frontier mint in Nevada.
