1883 Hawaii Half Dollar Kalakaua I MS-63 PCGS

This silver coin represents a fascinating era when Hawaii operated as an independent kingdom. Minted in 1883, the half dollar is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3617 troy ounces of the precious metal. Although struck at the San Francisco Mint, the coin does not display a mint mark, keeping its design clean and focused on its royal Hawaiian imagery. The obverse of the coin presents a detailed portrait of King Kalakaua, who ruled the island nation during the late nineteenth century. On the reverse, the central shield from the official Hawaiian Coat of Arms serves as the primary design element, surrounded by elegant details.
