1883 Hawaii Half Dollar Kalakaua I VF

This 1883 silver half dollar represents a fascinating era when Hawaii was an independent kingdom. Struck in 90 percent fine silver, the coin contains approximately 0.3617 to 0.3618 troy ounces of precious metal. Although it was minted at the San Francisco Mint in California, it was created specifically for circulation within the Hawaiian Islands. The obverse of the coin features a detailed portrait of King Kalakaua I, who ruled the kingdom during the late nineteenth century. The reverse displays a central shield adapted from the traditional Hawaii Coat of Arms. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, showing honest wear that speaks to its genuine circulation during a unique chapter of Pacific history.
