1883 Indian Head Cent XF

0.0000 troy oz 1883 Extra Fine

The 1883 Indian Head Cent is a fascinating artifact from late nineteenth-century America. Struck in Philadelphia, this coin is composed of a traditional alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. It represents a classic era of United States minor coinage, carrying a face value of one cent. The obverse features a stylized depiction of Liberty wearing an American Indian feather headdress, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed on the band. The date 1883 is positioned at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, the denomination ONE CENT is framed elegantly inside a simple, detailed wreath. This specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, showcasing the intricate details of James B. Longacre's original nineteenth-century engraving.
