The 1883 Morgan dollar is a classic example of late nineteenth century American coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this piece contains 0.77344 troy ounces of precious metal. Certified in Mint State 63, the coin retains its original luster and details just as it emerged from the mint over a century ago. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, adorned with a band inscribed with the word Liberty. Surrounding her profile are thirteen stars, the year 1883, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread, grasping both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. This central image is surrounded by the inscriptions United States of America and One Dollar, while the motto In God We Trust is positioned directly above the eagle.
