Struck in 1883 at the San Francisco mint, this twenty dollar gold piece is a stunning survivor from the late nineteenth century. Crafted with 0.9675 troy ounces of gold at a purity of 0.900, the coin represents a design era that spanned from 1850 to 1907. This particular specimen has survived in remarkable condition, certified by professional graders at Mint State 62. The front of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of Miss Liberty, her hair secured while wearing a crown-like diadem decorated with pearls and inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1883 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful eagle spreads its wings with a protective shield over its chest. Above the eagle, a halo of rays surrounds thirteen stars arranged in an oval pattern. The inscriptions on this side include United States of America and the denomination Twenty Dollars, alongside the mottoes In God We Trust and E Pluribus Unum. The coin's design was originally created by James B. Longacre.
