1883-S Morgan Dollar AU
The 1883-S Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Minted in San Francisco, this specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only minor wear from its brief time in commerce. The Morgan series itself served as a staple of American trade, circulating across the nation for roughly 80 years. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, which features a band inscribed with the word "LIBERTY". This side of the coin is bordered by thirteen stars, the date 1883, and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The reverse displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Above the eagle, the motto "In God We Trust" is inscribed, while the phrases "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" frame the design. The "S" mint mark, positioned below the eagle, denotes its origin from the San Francisco Mint. Each of these historic dollars contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 90 percent.
