The 1884 Morgan silver dollar is a compelling artifact from a bygone era of American coinage. Minted in the late nineteenth century, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.900. Its survival in Good condition tells a story of circulation and passage through many hands, preserving the essential elements of its historic design. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap. This side of the coin is framed by thirteen stars, the date of issue 1884, and the classic Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. The word Liberty is also inscribed upon her cap. The reverse side displays a bald eagle, a powerful symbol of the nation. Surrounding the central eagle are the inscriptions United States of America and the denomination One Dollar. The motto In God We Trust is positioned above the eagle, while the distinctive CC mint mark beneath the wreath identifies its origin at the famous Carson City Mint in Nevada.
