Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1884 silver coin represents a classic era of American currency. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this specific issue is distinguished by the absence of a mint mark, a traditional characteristic of coins struck at the nation's primary minting facility during this period. The obverse displays a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap. A band in her hair is inscribed with the word "Liberty". Encircling this central portrait is the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum", alongside thirteen stars that honor the first colonies of the nation, with the 1884 year of manufacture positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is depicted holding both an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons.
