This United States silver dollar from 1884 represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted with a purity of 90 percent silver, this piece contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. It has been officially graded as Mint State 65 (MS-65), indicating a highly preserved specimen that retains much of its original luster and sharp detail from the year it was struck, when more than fourteen million of these coins were produced. The obverse side of the coin presents a left-profile portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, with a hair band clearly displaying the word LIBERTY. Encircling this central image along the border are the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the 1884 date, and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with wings spread, clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The inscriptions surrounding the eagle include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOLLAR. Positioned directly above the eagle is the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, completing a design that remains one of the most recognized in numismatic history.
