The 1884 Morgan silver dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this particular issue carries no mint mark, a traditional signature of the nation's primary minting facility. This silver dollar circulated during a vibrant period of growth in the late nineteenth century, and it survived decades of active use, as the Morgan series remained in circulation for roughly 80 years. Crafted from 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, the coin features iconic imagery on both sides. The obverse presents a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, which is secured by a hair band inscribed with the word "Liberty". This portrait is encircled by the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum", thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the 1884 date. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons, symbolizing both peace and defense. The national motto "In God We Trust" is positioned above the eagle, while the inscriptions "United States of America" and "One Dollar" frame the central design.
