Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1884 Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Minted in New Orleans, as indicated by the O mint mark located on the reverse side, this specimen is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.77344 troy ounces of the precious metal. It has survived the decades in remarkable condition, achieving a high certified grade of Mint State 66. The obverse design showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band inscribed with her name. Encircling this central image are thirteen stars, the year of issue, and the traditional motto, E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The eagle is framed by the inscriptions United States of America and the denomination, One Dollar. The national motto, In God We Trust, is positioned above the eagle, completing the intricate design of this historic silver coin.
