Struck in 1884 at the San Francisco Mint, this Morgan silver dollar represents a fascinating moment in late nineteenth-century American coining. This specific piece has survived the decades in Almost Uncirculated 50 condition, retaining much of its original detail and luster from a total production run of 3,200,000 coins. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.77344 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, adorned with a band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is depicted with wings spread, holding an olive branch in one talon and a cluster of arrows in the other to represent both peace and military readiness. Just below the eagle, above the denomination of ONE DOLLAR, the letter S indicates its origin from the West Coast minting facility.
