The 1885 Morgan dollar stands as a classic representative of America's silver coinage history, a series that circulated actively for about 80 years. This particular specimen was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which did not utilize a mint mark. Containing 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 90 percent, the coin has survived in remarkable condition, earning a certified grade of Mint State 62 (MS-62). On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty faces left. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, which features a hair band inscribed with the word "Liberty". Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1885, and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". The reverse displays a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions "United States of America" and the denomination "One Dollar". The national motto, "In God We Trust", is positioned directly above the eagle, completing a design that remains one of the most recognized in numismatic history.
