0.7734 troy oz .900 1885 Extra Fine

The 1885 Morgan silver dollar stands as a classic representative of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this coin is struck from 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. Out of an original mintage of 17,787,000 pieces, this particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the clear details of its historic engraving. On the obverse side, a left-facing profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. Her hair band is inscribed with the word "Liberty". Encircling this central portrait are thirteen stars, the year of manufacture (1885), and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". The reverse side presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Above the eagle, the motto "In God We Trust" is inscribed in Gothic script. The outer rim is completed by the inscriptions "United States of America" and the face value, "One Dollar".
