1885-O Morgan Dollar MS-62 PCGS

Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1885 Morgan dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted in New Orleans, as indicated by its "O" mint mark, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. This specific specimen has been graded in Mint State 62 (MS-62), preserving the fine details of its original strike. The obverse of the coin displays a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, which features a hair band inscribed with the word "Liberty". Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the date 1885, and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The reverse design also displays the national motto "In God We Trust" alongside the inscriptions "United States of America" and the "One Dollar" denomination. While Morgan dollars circulated for roughly 80 years, certified examples like this one allow us to appreciate the artistry of the design just as it appeared when leaving the Louisiana mint facility.
