0.7734 troy oz .900 1885 MS-63 (NGC)

The 1885-O Morgan Dollar is a striking example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, this silver piece contains 0.77344 troy ounces of precious metal. As a representative of the famous Morgan series, which circulated in commerce for roughly eighty years, this coin carries a rich legacy of daily use in a rapidly growing nation. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty faces left. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, with a hair band clearly displaying the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, the year of issue (1885), and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. This certified specimen has been graded Mint State 63 (MS-63), preserving the fine details of the original engraving. The reverse side presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows. Above the eagle, the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST is visible, while the phrases UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR frame the central design.
