0.7734 troy oz .900 1885 MS-66 (NGC)

The 1885-O Morgan Dollar stands as a remarkable survivor from the late nineteenth century, preserved in an exceptional Mint State 66 condition. Struck from 0.77344 ounces of 90 percent pure silver, this coin represents a series that served as a staple of American commerce for about eighty years. Its high grade highlights the intricate details of the original engraving, offering a vivid window into the craftsmanship of the New Orleans Mint. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of Liberty is adorned with a Phrygian cap, which bears a hair band inscribed with the word Liberty. This central figure is encircled by the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum, thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the 1885 year of issue. The reverse features a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Surrounding the majestic bird are the inscriptions United States of America, One Dollar, and the national motto In God We Trust.
