The 1885-O Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage, minted at the historic New Orleans facility. This particular specimen displays a level of wear consistent with a Very Good to Very Fine grade, showing the honest circulation of a coin that passed through many hands in the late nineteenth century. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, part of a total mintage of 9,185,000 pieces struck at the Southern mint that year. The obverse design features a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, with a band in her hair displaying the word LIBERTY. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the year of issue 1885, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread, clutching both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows. This central image is framed by a wreath, with the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST positioned directly above the eagle's head. The outer rim is inscribed with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination, ONE DOLLAR.
