The 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar represents a classic era of American coinage, struck at the historic New Orleans Mint. This particular coin survives in Extra Fine condition, showcasing the detailed artistry that defined late nineteenth-century United States currency. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, representing one of over nine million such pieces struck at the Southern minting facility that year. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. A band nestled in her hair displays the word LIBERTY, while the outer border is encircled by the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the year 1885, and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. This side of the coin establishes a powerful symbol of national identity. The reverse side features a heraldic bald eagle with its wings spread, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons to symbolize both peace and readiness. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOLLAR.
