1885-S Morgan Dollar AU
Struck in 1885 at the San Francisco Mint, this silver dollar is a compelling example of nineteenth-century American coinage. The piece contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, minted with a fineness of 0.900. It survives today in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of its historic engraving. The obverse presents a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, which displays the word 'LIBERTY' across her hair band. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1885, and the Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The eagle is framed by the inscriptions 'United States of America' and 'One Dollar', with the motto 'In God We Trust' positioned above. Collectors can identify the San Francisco origin of this issue by the small 'S' mint mark located on the reverse side.
