The 1885-S Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American coinage, originating from the San Francisco Mint during the late nineteenth century. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of its original strike. Struck in 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, reflecting the substantial weight and feel that characterized circulating currency of its time. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, which features a band inscribed with the word "Liberty". Surrounding her portrait are thirteen small stars, the year of issue 1885, and the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". This side of the coin honors the foundational ideals of the nation with classic neoclassical imagery. The reverse displays a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping both arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The inscriptions "United States of America" and "One Dollar" frame the central design, while the motto "In God We Trust" is positioned above the eagle. An "S" mint mark is present on this side, identifying its origin from the West Coast facility. As a series, the Morgan Dollar circulated within the United States financial system for roughly 80 years, making it one of the most recognized silver coins in American history.
